My Areas
Bel Air
Bel Air is an affluent and exclusive faux-gated residential community in the Westside of LA. Bel Air is part of the so-called "Platinum Triangle," a term that refers to three adjoining communities: Bel Air, Beverly Hills and Holmby Hills. The community is approximately 17 miles (27 km) west of downtown Los Angeles and includes some of the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains and borders the north side of UCLA along Sunset Boulevard.
Beverly Hills
A city in the western part of Los Angeles County. Beverly Hills and the neighboring city of West Hollywood are together entirely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles. The area's "Platinum Triangle" of wealthy neighborhoods is formed by Beverly Hills and the neighborhoods of Bel-Air and Holmby Hills.
BHPO
Tucked into the canyons and hillsides above Beverly Hills, the area known as BHPO has all the flair of that fair city including a Beverly Hills zip code but is actually part of the city of Los Angeles.
Beverlywood
Beverlywood is bordered by Century City on the northwest, Cheviot Hills on the west, Culver City on the south, Crestview on the east, and South Robertson on the north. The district's boundaries are roughly Robertson Boulevard on the east; the Culver City limits on the south; Beverwil Drive and the Hillcrest Country Club on the west; and Monte Mar on the north. Beverlywood's principal thoroughfares are Venice, La Cienega, and Robertson Boulevards; Beverwil Drive; and Cadillac and Cattaraugus Avenues.
Beverly Center
The Beverly Center area is a beautiful community surrounded by Beverly Hills & West Hollywood. Some of the highest rated restaurants can be found in this very hip area of the city.
Carthay Circle
Carthay is a large residential district encompassing several neighborhoods in western Los Angeles. It is considered part of Mid-City Los Angeles.
Geography
Carthay is bordered by Country Club Park on the east, Culver City and Baldwin Hills on the south, Beverlywood on the west, and the Mircle Mile and the city of Beverly Hills on the north. The district is roughly bounded by Wilshire Boulevard on the north, La Cienega Boulevard on the west, the Santa Monica Freeway on the south, and La Brea Avenue on the east. Principal thoroughfares include Wilshire, La Cienega, San Vicente, Pico, and Venice Boulevards and La Brea and Fairfax Avenues. Major subdistricts include Picfair Village (whose name is a tribute to Mary Pickford's and Douglas Fairbanks' estate, Pickfair), South Carthay,Carthay Circle, Carthay Square, Wilshire Vista, and Little Ethiopia, a community of relatively recent Ethiopian and Indian immigrants.
Housing
Carthay takes its name from a now-demolished movie theater which stood on the corner of San Vicente and Crescent Heights Boulevards. The neighborhood was mostly developed in the 1930s, capitalizing on the success of the Miracle Mile. Most houses are built in the Art Deco or Spanish Colonial styles popular at the time. Single-family houses are most prevalent in Carthay Circle, while multi-unit houses are more common in South Carthay and Carthay Square. Mid-sized apartment buildings line the major streets in all three neighborhoods. Strict enforcement of restrictive covenants by the area's homeowners associations meant that most of these remained standing into the 1980s, when all three neighborhoods in the district were designated for preservation in Los Angeles' Historic Preservation Overlay Zone program.
Century City
Century City is a 176 acre commercial and residential district on the West Side of LA. It is bounded by Westwood on the west, Rancho Park on the southwest, Cheviot Hills and Beverlywood on the southeast, and the city of Beverly Hills on the northeast. Its major thoroughfares are Santa Monica, Olympic, and Pico Boulevards, as well as Avenue of the Stars and Century Park East and West. Century City is an important business center, and many law firms and executives-particularly those with ties to the film, television, and music industries-have offices there. Its Westfield-owned shopping mall is one of the major retail centers in Los Angeles.
Cheviot Hills
Cheviot Hills is an affluent neighborhood of single family homes located on the Westside of Los Angeles, California. Its gently rolling hills are reminiscent of the Cheviot Hills area on the border between Scotland and England, which is how the area got its name.
Culver City
As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 38,816. The community is mostly surrounded by the city of Los Angeles, but also has a border with unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Since the 1920s, Culver City has been a significant center for motion picture and later television production, in part because it was the home of MGM Studios. It also was the headquarters for the Hughes Aircraft Company from 1932 to 1985. National Public Radio West and Sony Pictures Entertainment now have headquarters in the city.
Encino
Encino (Spanish for evergreen or holm oak) is a district of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States. Specifically, it is located in the central portion of the southern San Fernando Valley. It derives its name from the Rancho Los Encinos (Ranch of the Evergreens), a parcel of land given to three Mission Indians by the Spanish government following its abandonment of the California missions in the early 1800s. Rancho Encino was established in 1845.
Hancock Park
The boundaries of what is meant by "Hancock Park" have some ambiguity. Respectively, its boundaries are Rossmore Avenue to the East, Melrose Avenue to the North, Highland Avenue to the West, and Wilshire Boulevard to the South. Its East and West borders are often confused with Larchmont Village and Windsor Square to the East, and the Fairfax District to the West.
Hollywood Hills
The most famous part of the Hollywood Hills is the area above the Sunset Strip, which is dotted with the mansions of the rich and famous. Hollywood Hills above the Sunset Strip is home to the highest concentration of celebrities in Los Angeles, where high-profile residents enjoy privacy along with the best views attainable in Los Angeles.
Holmby Hills
An affluent neighborhood in western Los Angeles. It is bordered by the city of Beverly Hills on the east, Wilshire Boulevard on the south, Westwood on the west, and Bel-Air on the north. Sunset Boulevard is the area's principal thoroughfare. In an effort to decrease traffic in the neighborhood, speed bumps have been installed on several key streets. Holmby Hills, Bel-Air, and Beverly Hills form the "Platinum Triangle" of Los Angeles' priciest and most exclusive neighborhoods. Many of the estates in Holmby Hills boast panoramic views of the entire Los Angeles Basin.
Miracle Mile
The Miracle Mile is an area in the Mid-Wilshire region of Los Angeles, California, consisting of a roughly one-mile stretch of Wilshire Boulevard between Fairfax and La Brea Avenues, and the surrounding neighborhoods (including Park La Brea).
Palms
Palms is bordered by Culver City to the south, Rancho Park and West Los Angeles to the north, and Mar Vista to the west. The district's boundaries are National Blvd. and the I-10 on the north, the Culver City boundary on the south, and the San Diego Freeway on the west.
Sherman Oaks
Sherman Oaks is an 8.1-square-mile district in the San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles, California. In contrast to much of the Valley, the area is relatively urbanized, with commercial skyscrapers along Ventura Boulevard as well as scattered throughout. In addition, residential densities are highly mixed, with apartment and condominium neighborhoods alongside single-story residential ones. The area is a hub for regional transportation, business, and shopping.
Studio City
Studio City is a four-square-mile district. It is bounded roughly by Ethel Avenue to the west, Highway 101 to the north and east, and Mulholland Drive and the Santa Monica Mountains to the south.
Westwood
Westwood is best known as the home of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The eastern portions of the district are often thought of as a distinctly different neighborhood, Holmby Hills. Westwood was carved from the old Wolfskill Farm, a 3,000 acre tract that was purchased in 1919 by wealthy retailer Arthur Letts.
West Hollywood
The total residential population is just over 37,000; however, the nighttime and weekend population swells to between 80,000 and 100,000. West Hollywood is bordered on the north by the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, on the east by the Hollywood District of Los Angeles, on the west by the city of Beverly Hills, and on the south by the Fairfax District of Los Angeles. It is "green minded" and extremely pet friendly.
West LA
The district is bordered by Santa Monica on the west, Brentwood on the northwest, the unincorporated Sawtelle Veterans Administration grounds on the north, Westwood on the northeast, Rancho Park on the east and southeast, and Mar Vista on the south and southeast. Its generally accepted boundaries are the San Diego Freeway on the east, the Santa Monica Freeway on the south, the city limits of Santa Monica on the west, and Wilshire Boulevard on the north. Its major thoroughfares are Olympic, Santa Monica, Pico, Wilshire, and Sawtelle Boulevards, Barrington and Bundy Drive.
