About Me

Josef Szigeti
Josef Szigeti

Josef Szigeti faces challenges head-on. He works as he lives: with focus and tenacity, terrific energy and a true zest for sharing what’s best about life in Southern California. Since 1996, when Josef earned his real estate broker’s license, his clients have turned to him again and again for knowledgeable, unpressured representation in the sale and purchase of their Southern California homes.

The determination that Josef brings to every transaction has defined his life—and his unique path to the real estate profession. “I arrived in Los Angeles in 1983,” Josef recalls, “with $500, a tent and all my worldly belongings on my back. I did not speak English, but within four days I found a job as a helper in a bookbinding factory. During the next few years, I held down as many as three jobs at one time, working up to 20 hours a day. Among other things, I was a construction worker, underwater diver and electrician. At the same time, I attended evening classes to learn English.”

Josef continues: “After six months in America, I opened my first business: a frozen yogurt stand in Venice Beach. I eventually sold the business and, while living on an 86-foot yacht in Marina del Rey and working as the owner’s representative, I attended the Physics Department at UCLA. During that time, I created a research and development company. Today, I own two patents.”

After graduating from UCLA in 1992, Josef started a security company, which he operated until 2003. He served on the boards of the Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives (ACRE) and the United States Adaptive Recreation Center (USARC), an organization that guides people with disabilities toward vigorous and rewarding lifestyles. His passion for outdoor activities (mountain biking, hiking, tennis, wind surfing, scuba diving, surfing and riding Arabian horses in endurance races) is complemented by volunteer activities (teaching disabled children water- and snow-skiing) and art-making (oil painting and sculpting in bronze).

"What I love most about Josef is his attitude,” says Steve Shull, one of the founding partners of Teles Properties. “He is full of life and possibility. He is a non-stop learner and is always seeking ways to improve the lives of the people around him.”

With seemingly boundless energy, Josef Szigeti treats every real estate transaction as an opportunity—to learn, to grow, to share his enjoyment of life. “Life is quite a remarkable experience,” Josef says. Indeed.
