Turn of the century English
Arts and Crafts architectural splendor resides here in the original 1908
design, as conceived by renowned architect,
Restoration efforts are first
evident upon viewing the extensive landscape design, which showcases a
manicured lawn, towering mature evergreen shade trees, specimen foliage
plantings, and the numerous stately palms. Wisteria vines climb columns and
cobblestone walkways lead to the Pool Pavilion, featuring a large outdoor
fireplace and trellised colonnade. Nearby is the koi pond meditation garden,
surrounded by newly planted Carolina Cherry trees. A perfect place for book
reading on a lazy afternoon.
The gracious mahogany paneled
Entry Hall displays a rising staircase, built in classic Craftsman style, up to
a large landing that enjoys streams of sunlight through a trio of leaded glass
windows.
The Library is sheathed with
ancient Oregon Pine paneling and is warmed by a fireplace in its central
seating area. A custom-created stained glass window houses a design of a tree, firmly
rooted in lush green landscape, with multicolored leaves dancing upon the light
gleaming through them. Adjacent to the Library is the Study, offering a cozy
beamed ceiling treatment and original stained wood from the early 1900's.
The Living Room, accessed
from the Entry Hall, is generously proportioned and surrounded by oversized
windows and French doors on three sides. The central fireplace presides over a
sunlit room with plaster walls, high ceilings and original light fixtures.
French doors open to a deeply
set Veranda, which overlooks the backyard, Pool and gardens. The entertainment
flow inside to outside is seamless and constantly opportune.
The Dining Room is cloaked in
a rich combination of Birch and Mahogany woods. Amply sized for a banquet, it
could also serve a romantic dinner for two in front of the fireplace. Historic
tile surrounds the hearth, and a glass door opens onto the entertaining
Veranda.
The Butler's Pantry stores
silver and china service. There is also a separate Cook's Pantry, complete with
tin-lined flour and sugar bins. A dual temp wine chiller is on hand for the
collector.
